While visiting my brother and sister in law in Denver, we stopped by this famous hotel. While the exterior of the Stanley Hotel was used in the film, "The Shining", as we found out from the hotel staff, the interior shots were all filmed at another hotel in Oregon.

The Stanley Hotel was built by the same guy who invented the Stanley Steamer. It set a land speed record in 1906 of 127.659 mph. I don't think that you can tell in this picture, but there is no wind shield. Can you imagine a big old bumble bee hitting you in the face at 127 mph. That is probably why they started installing windshields.

Just in case you missed this the first time I posted it. This is one of my most memorable moments of the summer of 2006. Now I submitted this photo into a photo contest for the Anchorage City Employees...I can't believe that I didn't even get a honorable mention, especially after seeing what pictures won. Of course they also didn't pick my chili in the chili cook off, what a bunch of knuckleheads. I'm not bitter at all.
